Rasima Anten was a local native woman and it is a minor mystery where her recorded surname "Anten" came from. It may suggest that she was in fact not full-blood Javanese and that she had a Dutch father, because, normally, Dutch colonial civic records did not consider it necessary to note full native names. Anten is in itself a name that occurs reasonably frequent in some areas in The Netherlands, notably in the Maastricht/Heerlen area of Dutch Limburg, and around Groesbeek in the more northerly province of Gelderland.
