He introduced concepts that are now standard in the field and he continued working on new research, including how the immune system triggers Type 1 diabetes in an effort to findways to control it. He spent most of his career at the University of California Los Angeles, where he attained the rank of "Professor Above Scale," a rank reserved for UCLA professors who have made novel and important contributions to their field. "He was an enormously creative thinker," said Jeffery Miller, chairman of microbiology, immunology and molecular genetics at UCLA. In a statement, Miller said Dr. Sercarz's work has applications thatextend throughout and beyond immunology. "Eli's research helps lead the way for developing new treatments for autoimmune diseases, novel cancer therapies based on activating anti-tumor immune responses and better vaccines for infectious diseases. His insights and ideas will have impact far into the future." - See more at: http://www.legacy.com/obituaries/UTSanDiego/obituary.aspx?pid=136115340fbLoggedOut met: 1e huwelijk 2e huwelijk, dochter van Aurthur Robinson (Sercarz) en Margaret K. |
